Jen LaBreche's story started in a small town in Michigan, and from age ten on, she spent her summers exploring the Huron National Forest at camp. In 1990 she followed her gut and intuition and left for college at North Park University in Chicago, Illinois. There, she earned her B.A. in English Literature and Writing and became a poet while working at a bookstore and a cafe. She also completed her teaching certificate and taught Middle and Elementary education in the Chicago and Evanston Public Schools as well as tutoring at an alternative learning center while riding her bike around Chicago. 

 

In 2001, Jen and her husband Rowell, moved to California after falling in love with the Pacific Ocean and redwood trees. In California, alternative education, nature, and yoga became a way of life. Sharing that passion and experience with others is Jen's goal.

 

Jen's kids, Kai (21) and Story (16) have grown up with an eclectic home / unschooling / alternative / nature education for the past seventeen plus years. You can usually find them playing video games and board games, exploring at the ocean, wandering in the woods, cooking delicious food, creating music on the guitar, bass, tenor sax and piano, traveling, or hanging out with their friends. Also, Kai has just transferred from Foothill College to the University of California, Santa Cruz and is studying History and enjoying the ocean, turkeys, deer, and of course the banana slugs among all the redwoods on campus.

 

Besides being a mom, Jen is still writing poetry and taking photos. She has been a wandering yogi/meditator in nature for the past 18 years, a Reiki master and energy healing practitioner since 2014, a L&PP-certified doula since 2017, a private chef since 2015, and a nature education teacher and alternative education consultant since 2008. Jen also loves to play the harmonium and is learning to play the ukulele and guitar. She also loves to walk and play with her chocolate lab Lucy, and make friends with all the dogs she meets.
